CONNECTOW: 5G Connectivity for Wavre
Connectivity is one of the pillars of innovation on a city level. Wavre, Belgium, currently experiences a need for 5G connectivity, as services of general economic interest (SGI) require a high-capacity and a reliable network.
However, installing a 5G network in Wavre is currently not commercially advantageous for MNOs. There is presently a significant financial gap generated by insufficient commercial viability, high upfront costs, and a lack of private-market finance.
With this grant, Citymesh, in close cooperation with Wavre, will build a state-of-the-art 5G private network complying with current security standards and attaining the highest level of performance.
CONNECTOW consists of a close-collaboration consortium of an MNO and the City of Wavre to ensure that a network architecture, planning and technology match the wishes and needs of SGIs as closely as possible.
CONNECTOW has already compiled various use cases for this innovative technology. The installation of a city-wide 5G network benefits the local administration, emergency services, and later on (technology) companies in Wavre and its vicinity.
Onboarding SGIs is one of the main objectives of this project to support their business-critical communications, remote operations, data collection, and improve inhabitants’ and visitors' experience.
